Winter Gardening

Image
People ask me why I work in the garden in Winter. 'There is nothing to do in the Winter,' they say. but for me there seems to be more to do in the Winter than any other season. It is partly because my trips to UK, followed by bouts of illness due to bringing back my families coughs and colds mean that I am always weeks behind with regular jobs. Then of course because I haven't finished developing the garden there is always 'construction' work to do. AND the inevitable repairs to wind damaged  structures. It took some time to cut this Buddleia down.   It was about 20 feet high.   This a crab apple tree that I bought from Wisley. It is waiting to be planted along with four others. A pile of wood chippings. I bought 4 cubic metres to help with the battle of the buttercups. I attempt to spread three barrow loads a day but sometimes the weather beats me. This flower bed must be about 100th of the area I have to cover.
