Time and Energy
When I was in the UK I couldn't wait to get back to my garden but I found that there were so many other things to do that I had only one day in the garden.
There was the Monday bilingual meeting which is usually my friend Yveline helping me and a couple of other friends to speak French. Then I spent half a day hoovering the library and wondering,' Why am I doing this when I hate house work and haven't hoovered my place since before Xmas'. (Still haven't).
I had to spend time planning the quiz, getting the questions ready and practising reading the French questions. Then of course the quiz itself. It was a great success and even though it was on Sunday afternoon, family day in Brittany we had 30 people. The winning team gave back the prize and the Pub donated 2 bottles of wine for the 2nd and 3rd teams.
This week started with the Monday group going for a walk around the newly landscaped public gardens in St Vran, the next village. It is a really lovely space with streams and bridges. It is mostly newly planted but it is surround by mature trees and there are some mature trees in the garden. I am continually surprised at the provision of local amenities. A newly constructed building lies near the entrance and will facilitate communal and personal events like birthday parties. It is a wooded construction and will weather nicely in keeping with its situation. I plan to take photos on a regular basis so that I will have a record of the plant growth.
Tuesday is gym day and when I saw Mr Michelin in the mirror in my place I resolved for the umpteenth time to go on a 'regime' (diet). So Wednesday found me trying to jog. I ended up doing scouts pace (walk 20 paces run 20 paces) for 10 minutes. I had planned 40 minutes but decided that a gradual progression
would be best! Then I went to the laundrette and washed a bed cover and a quilt that had been waiting in the van for the last 4 months. Then coffee in the bar and home for a quick lunch so I could dash off to a poetry workshop in the town mediateque. This was because I have to learn how to do it because I am supposed to be leading the same in our little library in St Vran next week.
The evening should have been Breton dancing with my favourite group in Ereac but I was too 'fatigée'. I was so mad with myself because I often tire myself out doing things that I don't really want to do and then have no energy for the things I really like doing.
Yesterday I was determined to get in the garden but also not to overdo it. I began with a scouts pace around my garden. Then I did some outside jobs and some house work( I hoovered the conservatory). I made wooden window boxes and painted them blue and put blue pots in them. I am really pleased with their appearance and am looking forward to planting them with geraniums because apparently geraniums keep away the mosquitoes.
